Handcream for a Generation

Handcream for a Generation Review

UK reissue of this 2002 album from the Indie Rock band led by Tjinder Singh. This fourth album is a sure-footed survey of international party styles. Through 13 tracks, they manage to locate the secret connections between Funk, Hip Hop turntablism, Boogie Rock, Roots Reggae, French House, Punjabi Folk, heavy Psychedelia, and, yes, good old-fashioned Indie-Pop. On paper, it looks dauntingly ambitious, and in the hands of any other band it probably would be. But Singh has a talent for finding universal accessibility at the heart of any genre as well as a pathological fear of the clich‚d and portentous.

BBC Sessions

BBC Sessions Review

Another gem from the BBC archives! And this might just be the 'cream' of the crop-22 live-in-the-studio performances by Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, only two of which have been released before! Includes renditions of then-current singles like 'I Feel Free' and 'Strange Brew' previews of upcoming album tracks like 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', 'We're Going Wrong', 'Born Under A Bad Sign', 'Politician', and 'Sunshine of Your Love', and versions of concert favorites like 'Traintime', 'Steppin' Out', and 'Crossroads', all recorded between November 1966 and January 1968. Also here are four short interview segments, as well as rare photos, session info and notes. A major find! Polydor. 2003.

Blue's Clues - Magenta Comes Over [VHS]

Blue's Clues - Magenta Comes Over [VHS] Review

Steve and Blue are excited because Magenta is coming over for a play date. But what does Blue want to do when Magenta arrives? You guessed it--Blue and Steve are going to play Blue's Clues to figure it out. As they search for clues, Steve and Blue help friends Shovel and Pail play hide and seek by identifying the trails left by Duck and Snail. They also discover opposites with Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper and find costumes that go together with Felt Friends. In the second episode, "What Does Blue Want to Do with Her Drawing?", Blue is working on a special drawing. When she's finished, Steve suggests hanging it on the refrigerator, but Blue has other ideas. As they play Blue's Clues to discover Blue's plan, Steve exposes the mystery ice-cream-cone maker and helps Felt Friend put his clothes on in the correct order.

In both 25-minute episodes, Blue and Steve captivate their young audience while teaching such skills as categorization, ordering, deduction, and visual perception. This is a great Blue's Clues video that simply must join your collection. --Tami Horiuchi

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Review

2008 release containing the instrumental version of this album from the Wu Tang member, originally released in 1995. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx's portraits of big-money drug deals and black underworld kingpins living in luxury had an enormous influence on the new New York hardcore scene, cinematic soundscapes support the album's tone; the appropriately dark or melancholy, shifting moods layer like different scenes in a film. 17 tracks. Altered Ego.
